Countess the Chihuahua, who features in Strapped for Cash, book 3 in The Seventies Collective, is ancient even by dog standards, with fur so sporadic it looks less like a coat and more like a suggestion.

She wears a bejeweled collar heavy enough that she sometimes struggles under the weight. Without the bling, her attitude could have her mistaken for a junkyard dog. With it, she's only marginally more distinguished.

She belongs to Genevieve, who drags her along on a leash like a canine water-skier and tells her to stop dawdling. She's perched on Genevieve's knee at every available opportunity, unless she gets her own chair, leaving mere mortals to stand.

She's timid until she isn't. Cross her path and the top lip curls back to reveal teeth that could have done with orthodontic attention in the last decade. She ankle-taps without warning and without apology.

Countess doesn't so much attend social occasions as endure them alongside her owner. Whether she enjoys any of it is anyone's guess. Her expression suggests not.
