Installment 45 of Finding the Names, Volume One — the New Orleans inward slave manifests, transcribed name by name from the National Archives' own scans (Microfilm Publication M1895, Roll 6, "Inward Manifests, 1829–1831," NAID 173906205), images 601–720.

467 entries (458 named, 9 unnamed) on 59 manifests, January–October 1830, each printed voyage by voyage exactly as written — disagreements between a manifest and its certificate are printed, never tidied away. With an alphabetical index of every name and its image number, so any entry can be checked against the original scan.

Inside: the ship Shenandoah's 120 numbered entries out of Alexandria — Franklin & Armfield's forty consigned to Isaac Franklin — with Milly Eldridge, Dorcas Williams, and Tom left on shore and Gustavus and Betty shipped in their places, so 117 sailed; one Mobile filing under two vessel names, Mt Vernon on the manifest and Olive Branch on its certificate, carrying Phoebe, her infant, and Catharine; the Transport's Norfolk permission for 83 people against 69 named on her filmed sheets; the Magnolia's four sheets totaling exactly her certificate's 101, with Daniel "sick" and John and Sally reported not on board; Edmond of the Eugenia, struck through and marked "Absent" while the certificate still says four; Lylla, 8, travelling alone with her residence entered as "on board."

We transcribe these records by hand from the original public records — no index, database, or published book is copied — so descendants can find their people. FREE, now and always; please share it.
