Sally persistently asked to try a cigarette when she just 4 years old! She recalls: “I was sick as a dog…” By the age of 9 Sally was a regular smoker, and by the age of 13 a pack-a-day-smoker. She still smokes a pack-a-day (2 packs when socialising) but at her peak she tells us during the interview sequence that she peaked at 60 cigarettes each day!

Now 53, Sally’s lungs are audibly damaged; she’s developed a severe cough, breathing difficulties and damaged vocal chords. BUT she’s still an addicted smoker and always will be.

She smokes the strongest brand she can find which is a foreign brand of Rothmans; the UK limits tar/nicotine content in its cigarettes. She explains:

“I remember doing this experiment at school, we had 3 pink lungs, one was Benson & Hedges, one was Rothmans and one was Marlboro, and the Rothmans one after 4 cigarettes the lungs started to bleed. So I don’t know if it was that that attracted me to Rothmans.”

Sally is a real revelation. She’s so deeply addicted she simply can’t quit smoking, and I believe she probably wouldn’t be able to quit even if she developed a smoking related illness.

She conveys that she doesn’t care about the health effects of smoking and she EVEN smokes several times during the night when she’s woken up because her body communicates to her that it needs a cigarette.

This compilation showcases Sally smoking 4 strong cigarettes with vigour. The interview is revealing and we get to see the heaviest smoker that I’ve been able to capture on camera.
