Valentine’s Day Roll and Draw Directed Drawing Activity Valentine Art Game Art
This Valentine’s Day Roll and Draw resource turns directed drawing into a game. Students roll a die to decide what each part of their drawing will look like, so every roll creates a different Valentine-themed artwork.
Students build characters and objects such as love bugs, hearts, teddy bears, cupcakes, dinosaurs, balloons, candy, bees, monsters and Valentine letters. They don't know what the final drawing will look like until the end, which keeps the activity playful. It suits February art lessons, elementary art classes, homeschool art, early finishers and substitute teacher art plans.

HOW TO USE IT
Each Roll and Draw page has four drawing steps, such as shape, body, face, accessories or details. For each step, students roll the die to find out which design option to draw. When all four steps are done, they color and decorate their drawing. Because each step has several options, two students starting on the same page will likely end up with very different artwork, and students can repeat the activity with new results.
Print pages for single lessons, assemble them into a Valentine’s Roll and Draw booklet, glue them into sketchbooks, or set them up as art centers. Students can use crayons, colored pencils, markers, oil pastels, watercolor or tempera paint. They practice directed drawing, creative thinking, fine motor skills and artistic decision making, and reluctant artists build confidence.
