Coaching Skills for Leaders and Managers

he fastest way to stay indispensable is to solve every problem that reaches you. It also guarantees every problem keeps reaching you. Coaching is the opposite move — handing the thinking back — and it is genuinely hard when you already know the answer and the line is waiting.

This course puts you in a week of interruptions, each one a chance to coach or to tell. It does not pretend telling is always wrong: sometimes the press is stopped and the answer is owed. It makes you choose which the moment needs, and shows you the cost of the wrong call in either direction.

You will practise:

• Deciding on purpose whether a moment needs coaching or telling, and saying which one you are doing
• Handing the thinking back with a question that is genuinely open, not your answer with a question mark on it
• Getting the outcome they want and where they actually are, before anyone starts listing options
• Finishing on a first step, the support it needs, and a date to review it
