"Shadow of Deceit" is a gripping detective story that follows a detective's harrowing journey to uncover the identity of a serial killer known as "The Apologist". The killer's signature move is leaving a note at each crime scene that says, "I'm sorry". All of the victims are young women with dark hair and green eyes, leading the detective to believe the killer is searching for a specific person.

The case takes a dark turn when the detective begins to suspect their own brother, Alex, is the killer. The detective's suspicions are confirmed after finding a hidden notebook in Alex's drawer filled with notes and sketches of the victims. The final entry in the notebook is a sketch of the detective with the caption "Soon". The detective's team converges on Alex's apartment, where they find him with a new victim, a young woman with dark hair and green eyes, who is tied and gagged.

Alex is arrested and charged, and the detective is left to grapple with the emotional fallout of the case. The detective must reconcile the brother they knew with the monster he turned out to be, all while trying to understand the twisted compulsion that drove him to kill. With the help of a psychologist, the detective begins to heal and find a way to move forward, acknowledging that the truth is complex and the people we love are capable of both good and evil. The case is closed, but the detective's journey of healing and self-discovery is just beginning.
