Self-Advocacy Conversation Guide
Helping children advocate for themselves takes more than knowing what to say. They also need support in understanding when, how, and why to use that language.
This Self-Advocacy Conversation Guide is a parent-friendly resource designed to support meaningful conversations that build student awareness, confidence, and independence. The guide helps adults walk children through reflection around:
- what is working and what feels challenging
- what helps them learn or participate
- when they may need support or an adjustment
- how to express those needs clearly and respectfully
This resource pairs naturally with the Self-Advocacy Sentence Starters, helping move self-advocacy from scripted responses toward authentic communication. Together, these tools support children in understanding their needs and practicing advocacy in real situations at home and at school.
