A bright and cheery pair of fingerless mitts, starting with a twisted and graduated coloured rib. They use five shades of Shetland wool: follow my choices or put together your own! The motifs come from a cut section of a jumper given to me by friends in the charity shop, as they knew I could be inspired by it.

MATERIALS

Jamieson and Smith, 2 ply Jumper weight (2ply equivalent to 4ply/fingering weight; 100% Shetland wool; 115 mtrs/125 yds per 25g ball).

1 x 25g ball each in:

Yarn A: 52

Yarn B: 43

Yarn C: FC13

Yarn D: FC34

Yarn E: 125

  • 2.5mm/US# 1-2 needles for your preferred method of working short circumferences
  • 3mm/US# US 2½ needles for your preferred method of working short circumferences
  • 2 lengths of smooth waste yarns for afterthought thumb placement
  • 2 stitch holders or longer lengths of smooth waste yarn

Actual hand circumference: 19cm/7.5 ins

Actual length from cuff to end of fingers: 20.5cm/8 ins

PATTERN NOTES

These mitts are knit in the round from the cuff up, with an afterthought thumb. After completing the main knitting, you remove the waste yarn and pick up the stitches for the fingers and thumb.
