Trams are an important transport feature of many Belgian cities including Ghent. The tracks intersect as they bend around corners and cross over pedestrian plazas, creating beautiful smooth criss-crossing lines that contrast with the textured cobblestones in which they are embedded. My design is inspired by a view of the tracks from the top of the 91 metre high Ghent Belfry Tower, shown above.

The tram track stitch pattern is worked with cables and texture. The textures alternate with each zigzag. Each tram track zigzag is bordered by a wide rib pattern, which also extends to the sides of the garment. The rib lines all begin within the lower border garter stitch pattern. The top has drop sleeves which are knitted in wide rib with a set of tram tracks placed in the centre of each sleeve.
