If you’re a fan of table games like Dungeons and Dragons, you’ll recognize this twenty-sided die. Will your hit be critical, or will you have to consider putting *that* particular die in dice jail after several 1 rolls? Consider making and wearing these socks for good luck at your next session!

 

Pattern details:

 

Pattern is written for top-down or bottom-up knitting, with two heel options: shadow wrap heel, and flap and gusset heel. Version 3, published in November 2023, includes written instructions for the colorwork charts.

 

Skill level:

Advanced beginner to intermediate.

Techniques: knit, purl, decreasing and increasing stitches, short rows, stranded colorwork.

 

Sizes:
1, 2, 3 [ 4, 5, 6 ] 7, 8, 9 for foot circumferences of 7, 7½, 8 [ 8½, 9 9½ ] 10, 10½, 11” or 17.8, 19,1, 20.3 [ 21.6, 22.9, 24.1 ] 25.4, 26.7, 27.9 cm, respectively.

 

Yarn:
Fingering weight/sock yarn – Ideally 75-90% superwash wool and 10-25% nylon or silk to add strength and durability. A minimum of 3-4 ply also ensures durability.

Yardage requirements:
  • Main Color (MC): 88, 100, 120 [ 140, 160, 200 ] 240, 300, 340 yards or 22, 25, 30 [ 35, 40, 50 ] 60, 75, 85 grams
  • Contrast Color (CC): 80, 88, 100 [ 120, 140, 180 ] 220, 260, 300 yards or 20, 22, 25 [ 30, 35, 45 ] 55, 65, 75 grams
 
Gauge:
On US 1 (2.25 mm) needles, 32 stitches and 44 rows in 4” x 4” or (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch, wet blocked.

Tools:
US1 (2.25 mm) and US2 (2.75 mm) needles, or sizes required for gauge. Tapestry needle, measuring tape, scissors, and five stitch markers (three of which are recommended to be removable).
