My Daily Questions App: Working with The Inner Critic
Working with The Inner Critic
Designed for clients in whom a harsh internal voice is prominent — whether that manifests as shame, perfectionism, a chronic sense of not being enough, or a pattern of self-attack that no amount of reassurance seems to shift. The app works with the critic progressively, rather than confronting it or trying to silence it.
Questions move through five tiers: noticing the critic's content and triggers; creating distance from the voice through imagery and metaphor; gathering evidence the critic ignores; developing the compassionate witness; and building small, daily practices of self-kindness.
What Makes it Work
The defusion work — getting distance from the critic — comes before any challenge or compassion. This respects the way shame actually functions: the client needs to be able to observe the voice before they can question it. Asking for self-compassion too early often backfires. This app doesn't do that.
Particularly Useful For
Clients who are visibly hard on themselves in session, or whose self-criticism continues to operate even as the therapeutic relationship deepens.
About the 'My Daily Questions' Series
Each app delivers one reflective question per day to your client, drawn from a bank of twenty questions organised into five clinical tiers. The tiers move gradually from gentle, concrete entry points toward deeper self-exploration — so the questions ask less of your client early on, and more as the relationship with the app develops.
Answers are stored only on your client's device. Nothing is transmitted online. Everything stays private to them.
No app store. No account. No ongoing cost. Your client taps a link once to install it on their phone — it works like any other app, including offline.
