The Gilded Gull Case: Printable Cold Case File Detective Game (No Gore, 1-16 Players, Letter + A4)
A printable cold case file detective game with NO GORE, for 1 to 16 players, with 48 pages in both US Letter and A4.
November 14, 1998: the Ardell Blue, a sapphire pendant, vanishes from a locked glass case during a four-minute blackout at a seaside hotel gala. Nobody is hurt. Six people had a reason. Five of them lied. Twenty-eight years later the pendant turns up in an auction catalog, the case is reopened, and the file lands on your desk.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT
• No gore, no body: a jewel theft. Ages 12+, so it works for families, teens, date night, gifts and office teams.
• Plays 1 to 16: a quiet solo or date night, a team around the table, or a party with up to 16 guests.
• 48 pages per size, every file in US Letter AND A4.
• Real-feel 1998 evidence: guard's log, floor map, witness statements, gala program, receipts, switchboard records, photos and more (29 numbered documents).
• Fair play: every red herring can be cleared with a document, and the culprit can be proven from the evidence.
3 WAYS TO PLAY
• SOLO OR DATE NIGHT (1-2 players, 60-90 min): cozy night in; use hints whenever you like.
• TEAM (3-6 players, 60-90 min): one shared set of evidence; split the reading and report back.
• PARTY (7-16 players, 75-90 min): 2-4 rival squads of 3-5, detective role cards, scoring for eliminations and the first correct accusation. The host can read the solution ahead and play along as the sergeant.
HOW IT WORKS
Three sealed envelopes, each with an unlock rule:
• Envelope A, The File: pin down the theft window and clear two suspects to unlock B.
• Envelope B, The Night: narrow it to one suspect and find whose story breaks to unlock C.
• Envelope C, The Trail: prove it, then fill in the Accusation Sheet and open the Solution.
Stuck? Each envelope has 3 tiered hints: a nudge, where to look, and nearly the answer.
WHAT'S INSIDE (7 files, each in US Letter + A4; 14 PDFs in one zip)
• 1 Start Here (5 pages): how it works, unlock rules, the 3 modes, print and prep
• 2 Envelope A, The File (14 pages), incl. Puzzle 1: Timeline Board
• 3 Envelope B, The Night (8 pages), incl. Puzzle 2: the guests' photos
• 4 Envelope C, The Trail (7 pages), incl. Puzzle 3: handwriting comparison
• 5 Hints + Accusation Sheet (4 pages)
• 6 Solution (6 pages): who, why and how, the full timeline, every elimination, epilogue
• 7 Party Kit (4 pages): host guide, 5 detective role cards with dress-up ideas, score sheet, envelope labels
• READ-ME-FIRST.txt
GOOD TO KNOW
• About 60-90 minutes (Party mode 75-90 minutes plus set-up).
• Print at 100% / Actual size. Black and white is fine. Envelopes are optional: the Party Kit has labels, or just write A / B / C / SOLUTION.
• Tip: put B, C, Hints and Solution straight into envelopes as they print, without reading them.
• All people, places and businesses in the story are fictional.
• Instant digital download. No physical item is shipped.
• Made with an AI generator for parts of the design and writing, then edited and checked by hand.
