PAPER TYPES INFORMATION IDEAS

• Matte paper features a special coating that gives it a smooth, non-shiny finish and helps enhance the clarity of colours. In contrast, uncoated paper lacks this coating, creating a more natural and textured feel.

• Satin paper features a smooth finish with a subtle sheen, making it a versatile choice for various printing needs. It bridges the gap between matte and glossy photo paper, providing vibrant colour reproduction while minimizing glare. This type of paper delivers the colour vibrancy typically found in glossy and semi-glossy papers without excessive shine. Ideal for professional use, satin paper enhances the quality of art prints and photographs.

• Semi-gloss paper is a popular choice for printing high-quality photographs. It has a slightly glossy finish, less shiny than full-gloss paper, offering a bridge between matte and glossy options. This type of paper is durable, able to withstand some wear and tear, and is resistant to smearing and fingerprints (make sure the printer settings are set correctly for this type of paper.) The semi-gloss paper brings out an image's true colours, making it look vibrant and lively, which is particularly important for detailed photographs. Unlike glossy paper, semi-gloss paper has a unique texture that helps reduce glare and reflections on its surface. Photographers often prefer semi-gloss paper because it enhances the colours of their images and provides a professional appearance.

• Glossy paper features a shiny, reflective surface that enhances the vibrancy and contrast of images. This finish makes colours appear more saturated and vivid. The glossy coating limits ink absorption, allowing the ink to rest on the surface rather than seep into the paper. As a result, this leads to sharper, more detailed print quality, particularly for photographs. Additionally, glossy paper often includes a protective layer that makes it more resistant to smudging, fingerprints, and water compared to uncoated paper. However, it may be more susceptible to scratches or scuffs due to its slick surface. One drawback of the glossy finish is that it can create reflections, which may lead to glare under certain lighting conditions, making images less clear in some viewing angles.
