I suggest 4 weight yarn and 4.5 or 5.0 hook, but use whatever youll be comfortable with

Chaining row doesnt count as row1 
if row 1 says sc100, youwill chain 100+1, turn sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each across. At end of the row, chain 1 and turn. Row 1 is now complete
