Frequencies it works with
Four frequencies built from a single harmonic relationship, extended outward in both directions until they fill the space between the body's lowest register and the upper edge of comfortable hearing.
64 Hz — sub-bass, felt before heard. The lower voice of the foundational fifth, arriving in the chest and the belly as a slow, warm pressure. Ancient in the way that stone is ancient — not dramatic, simply present in a way that predates the need for explanation.
96 Hz — its perfect fifth, in a 2:3 ratio with 64 Hz. The most stable harmonic interval after the octave, the interval that virtually every tuning system humanity has ever devised begins with. Together, 64 and 96 Hz form an open chord that the body recognizes as resolved before the mind has processed it as music.
384 Hz — the fourth octave of 96 Hz, arriving in the warmth register of the human voice. It carries the same harmonic DNA as the frequencies below it, but at a height where the quality becomes less physical and more luminous — the same vast space, seen from slightly above.
3,072 Hz — the fifth octave of 96 Hz, precise and bright. At this height the harmonic family extends into pure presence — still part of the same structure, still carrying the same open quality, but now at the edge of the body's physical experience and the beginning of something closer to awareness itself.
All four lock into the same harmonic family without friction. The result is an open, unresolved chord that feels simultaneously ancient and spacious — the way a single note played in a stone canyon opens into something much larger than itself.
When to listen
- When you want to feel held by something vast without needing to understand what it is. Before long periods of focused work, or at the end of a day that asked a great deal of you.
- When support is what is needed but the ordinary sources of it are unavailable or insufficient — when the people you would usually turn to are not reachable, when the structures you rely on feel temporarily thin, when you need to remember that there is a layer of holding beneath the human layer that does not depend on anyone being available or anyone getting it right. This frequency arrangement does not simulate that support. It makes it perceptible. It was always there. The sound simply makes it audible.
- When the enormity of something — a transition, a loss, a threshold, an unanswerable question — has left you standing at an edge with nothing to hold and no map for what comes next. This chord does not provide the map. It provides the quality of steadiness that makes standing at the edge survivable — the felt sense that the ground beneath the edge is solid, that vast does not mean unsafe, that something can be enormous and still be on your side.
- When the day has extracted more than expected and the self feels depleted in a way that rest alone will not reach. When you want to receive rather than process — to be held rather than to understand. When the most honest thing you could say is that you are tired in a way that goes deeper than sleep, and what you need is not sleep but to feel, even briefly, that the weight is not yours alone to carry.
How to listen
Headphones work beautifully here, as does a speaker in a large room. Let the sound fill the space rather than focusing on any single frequency. The experience of this arrangement is not in any one of its layers but in the relationship between them — in the open air between 64 Hz and 3,072 Hz, in the harmonic family that holds all four together without crowding them.
If your attention drifts between the layers, let it. That wandering is part of the experience. The chord is wide enough that the ear cannot hold all of it at once, and the movement of attention across it rehearses the very thing the arrangement is offering — the ability to be inside something vast without needing to grasp all of it simultaneously.
Allow the body to become heavy. Allow the room to become large. Allow the sound to be larger than you are, and notice that being inside something larger than yourself does not require you to become smaller. You remain exactly what you are. The vastness simply makes more room around it.
Stay as long as you need — your system knows how long it wants to be here.
How it works
64 and 96 Hz sit in a perfect 2:3 ratio — the pure fifth, the interval that forms the foundation of virtually every harmonic system humans have constructed across every culture and every era. It is not a cultural preference. It is an acoustic fact — the third and second harmonics of the natural overtone series, the first interval the ear learns to recognize as stable. When these two frequencies sound together, the body does not experience them as two separate tones. It experiences them as one relationship, one quality, one thing that is open and resolved at the same time.
384 Hz is the fourth octave of 96 Hz — the same note, four doublings up, now carrying the warmth of the human voice register without losing the spaciousness of the foundational fifth below. 3,072 Hz is its fifth octave, extending the harmonic family into the upper presence range where sound becomes less physical and more spatial. Together the four frequencies create a structure that spans the full usable range of human hearing while remaining, at every point, in perfect harmonic relationship with itself.
What the nervous system receives is a chord that has no tension to resolve — not because it is simple, but because every element of its complexity is already at peace with every other element. The ear finds nothing to correct, nothing to brace against, nothing waiting to change. In the absence of that vigilance, something loosens. The body remembers what it feels like to be inside something that does not need anything from it. That quality — of being held without being asked to hold back — is rarer than it should be. This is where to find it.
3 affirmations you can use with it
Let them be large. Let the space in the sound carry them further than your voice alone could reach.
- I am held by something I do not need to name or understand. It has always been here.
- Vast does not mean alone. I am inside something enormous that is entirely on my side.
- I release what the day asked of me. Something larger than the day receives it.
