The Shopping List is a simple way to encourage children to practise writing, spelling, planning and organising what they need. It can be used during pretend play or alongside real-life shopping activities.

The Supermarket Checkout Sheet gives children the opportunity to act as the cashier or customer, record items, quantities and prices, work with totals and change, and choose different payment methods. It can help support number recognition, addition, money skills, reading, writing and problem-solving.

The Worldwide Supermarket Order Sheet was created with inclusivity in mind. Rather than focusing only on the foods commonly found in one type of household, we’ve tried to include a wider mix of foods and ingredients that may feel familiar to children from different cultures and backgrounds.

It includes sections for fruit and vegetables, Caribbean foods, African foods, Halal/South Asian foods, Chinese/East Asian foods, everyday foods, bakery items, and chilled and frozen foods.

We know one printable could never represent every culture, family or food choice, but we wanted to create something broader than a standard supermarket worksheet and give more children the chance to recognise foods they may see in their own homes and communities.

Together, the three pages can support maths, English, handwriting, spelling, money awareness, addition, quantities, recording information, decision-making, cultural awareness and imaginative play without learning needing to feel overly formal.

Printing information:

These printables are designed at A4 size.

If your printer supports A5, you can select A5 (148 × 210 mm) and choose Fit to Page.

If your printer only supports A4, you can create a smaller A5-style version by choosing 2 pages per sheet in your printer settings, then cutting the A4 sheet in half.

Please note that printing at a smaller size will also make the writing areas, tick boxes, tables and other details smaller, so A4 is recommended if you would like children to have more room to write and complete the activities.

For best results, print on standard paper or card. You can also laminate the pages and use wipe-clean pens so they can be enjoyed again and again.
