Let's Go

This is an almost perfect book for understanding the Go way of building web applications. It lives up to its promise of "learn why as well as how", which is by far and away my favourite part. I probably won't build web applications quite the way he does, but I'm now well equipped to understand the design choices made by other Go libraries and frameworks, so can make my own hype-free choices. Highly recommended, thanks Alex!

Testing is covered well, but quite briefly and only in the final chapters, not integrated into the main content. It's a deliberate choice, I'm sure, for timing and concept pacing, and not the worst thing in the world. I would encourage the author to check out John Arundel's books for an example of a different choice which I think works very well.

I was a little unhappy when I discovered that the standard edition, advertised as "The full Let’s Go book in HTML, PDF & EPUB format", is actually missing Chapter 16, the guided exercises, so be warned about that.

I first learned about the author of this book (Alex Edwards) from his Go SCS session management library. Afterwards i repeatedly stumbled upon his name in the Go space. I first binge-read all of his blog articles (which i sincerely recommend reading) and decided to buy his "Let's Go" book.

I like how the book is structured and easy to follow along. What i also really like is the fact that he doesn't just explain "what" to do but also "why" things are done the way they are or what alternatives there are. After having seen too many tutorials and courses, which basically come down to "write after whats being dictated", this is one of the aspects i am looking for to judge the quality of a publication.

I could go deeper but that would over complicate the review. Overall i highly recommend "Let's Go" if you want to get a good start into the Go programming language. And if you are undecided, there is a reading trial which gives a very good impression of what the book contains.

It just hangs, I'm unable to download, and I have been paying around 60$.
I have tried multiple times now for 2 days. I hope I get some support, but still very bad experience.

Excellent material, examples, diversity, and exploration in depth of each topic.
