Difficulté physique /physical : facile, easy / moyen du fait de sa longueur au dép. de Frutigen (medium from Frutigen, because of the total distance). Pas de montée avec de gros pourcentages. No very steep climbs.
Revêtement : 68% non goudronné /unpaved , routes forestières, quelques courts sentiers faciles.

(ENG below) Une autre belle découverte de l’été 2023 : Le Gasterntal, une sublime vallée cachée derrière Kandersteg, dans l’Oberland bernois, dans un écrin rocheux de toute beauté.
Depuis Kamdersteg, il faut continuer jusqu’au fond de la vallée, au-delà du téléphérique, oÛ tu crois que tu ne peux pas aller plus loin…
Mais une petite route se cache dans la forêt, et elle te mène à des gorges magnifiques, qui sont la porte d’entrée de cette vallée “secrète”. La montée (2km, +160m) est époustouflante, au coeur des Gorges de la Chluse, par une petite route gravel, entre tunnels et ponts de pierres qui franchissent la rivière tumultueuse. Cet ancien chemin muletier existe depuis des siècles, et marquait le premier tronçon de l’abrupte montée vers le col de Löstche sur le versant sud du vallon.
Après cette délicieuse mise en bouche, tu arrives sur un plateau complètement cerné de montagnes vertigineuses, desquelles se précipitent des cascades de plusieurs centaines de mètres… C’est magnifique, féérique. Tu ne sauras plus où donner de la tête, totalement hors du monde…
Tu peux pédaler assez aisément jusqu’au fond de ce plateau (8km, +300m, quelques secteurs un peu raides), entre forêts, marais et alpages, passant d’un côté à l’autre de la rivière, parfois étalée en larges méandres, parfois se faufilant bruyamment dans d’étroits goulets rocheux. N’hésite pas à aller jusqu’au fond pour aller faire une pause à la buvette de Heimritz (alt. 1’630), mais tu trouveras d’autres petits restaurants en chemin.
On a adoré cette découverte, un itinéraire qu’on a fait au départ de Frutigen (il y a une gare CFF), pour profiter de la jolie montée (facile, 12km +490m en suivant la route vélo 64) jusqu’à Kandersteg (où il y a aussi une gare CFF).

Another great discovery in summer 2023: The Gasterntal, a sublime valley hidden behind Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland, set against a backdrop of rocky beauty.
From Kandersteg, you have to continue to what looks like the end of the valley, beyond the cable car, where you think you can't go any further...
But there's a small road hidden in the forest, which leads to the magnificent gorges that are the gateway to this "secret" valley. The ascent (2km, +160m) is breathtaking, in the heart of the Gorges de la Chluse, on a small gravel road, between tunnels and stone bridges that cross the tumultuous river. This ancient mule track has existed for centuries, and marked the first section of the steep ascent to the Col de Löstche on the southern side of the valley.
After this delicious appetizer, you arrive on a plateau completely surrounded by vertiginous mountains, from which several hundred meters high waterfalls shine... It's magnificent, magical. You won't know where to look, totally out of this world...
You can pedal quite easily to the end of this plateau (8km, +300m, some sections a little steep), between forests, marshes and alpine pastures, passing from one side to the other of the river, sometimes spread out in wide meanders, sometimes noisily threading its way through narrow rocky gullies. Don't hesitate to go all the way to the end of the road, to take a break at the Heimritz refreshment bar (alt. 1,630), but you'll also find other small restaurants...
We loved this discovery, a route we took from Frutigen (where there's a SBB station), to enjoy the pretty climb (easy, 12km +490m following cycle route 64) to Kandersteg (where there's also a SBB station).
