SONATINA (HOMAGE TO HAYDN) for solo guitar by Dusan Bogdanovic

Sonatina, Homage to J. Haydn combines classical form with jazz harmony and rhythm. There are no direct quotations from Haydn; rather, the homage lies in the formal economy, clarity, and elegance that are so characteristic of his music.

Haydn, often called the “father of the symphony and string quartet,” also possessed a wonderfully playful sense of humor. His sudden loud chord in the “Surprise Symphony”, as well as his mischievous false endings, are among the many examples of his ability to surprise and delight the listener.

The piece is performed here by Daniela Rossi, who is also its dedicatee.
