HEALING POWER OF ALLIUM CEPA (ALUBASA): Natural Remedies for Asthma, Kidney Disorders, and Ulcers
The purpose of this book is simple yet profound: to bridge the timeless wisdom of traditional African herbal medicine with modern scientific understanding. Allium cepa, locally known as Alubasa, has been used for generations to support respiratory, renal, and gastrointestinal health. Through this work, I aim to document, analyze, and share the full scope of its healing potential—providing readers with practical guidance grounded in both tradition and evidence.
This book was born from a personal journey. Growing up in Nigeria, I witnessed firsthand the healing power of local plants, from the kitchen table to the village herbalist’s home. These experiences sparked a lifelong interest in ethnobotany, medicinal plant research, and the careful preservation of indigenous knowledge. Over the years, I have combined field visits, interviews with traditional healers, and extensive literature review to produce a resource that is both trustworthy and accessible.
In writing this book, my goal has been to:
· Present the ethnobotanical and cultural significance of Allium cepa (Alubasa).
· Explore its nutritional and phytochemical composition.
· Summarize scientific studies supporting its use for asthma, kidney disorders, and peptic ulcers.
· Provide practical preparation methods, dosage guidance, and safety precautions for everyday use.
· Encourage ethical and sustainable use of indigenous plants, preserving knowledge for future generations.
I hope this work will serve as a reference for herbalists, clinicians, researchers, and health-conscious individuals alike. More than that, I hope it inspires respect for the natural remedies that grow around us, and the wisdom of the cultures that have preserved them.
