Finding the Names — Installment 82 (Roll 10, 1845) — FREE
Installment 82 of Finding the Names continues Roll 10 — New Orleans Inward Manifests, 1844–1845 (National Archives Microfilm Publication M1895, Roll 10, NAID 173900399), images 481–600: 657 people on 60 manifests, transcribed name by name from the original records at the National Archives. The project now stands at 53,224 entries.
Inside: the brig Kirkwood's one Baltimore sailing fills out — Rodbird's 23, Slatter's 60 (two women both entered as Charlotte Collins, 18, distinguished "1st" and "2d"), and Donovan's 39, where the infant Amelia Jones was struck through and numbered "0." The barque Home carried 88 people under four Baltimore manifests in one week, term-service oaths throughout. The brig Orleans's table was photographed three times and is transcribed once. The Lancaster lost two men in the James River — "Taken off in James River" — her permission's fifty against the Balize tally of 49. And on a Richmond steamer's list stands a Madison Washington, 21 — the Creole leader's name at an age that does not fit him, printed here without claiming him, with Thomas Jefferson on the line below.
This download contains the full book (PDF, 190 pages, large print) AND the complete name list for this installment as a spreadsheet (CSV) — every name as written, with ship, date, age, height, and the manifest image number, so any entry can be checked against the original scan.

Every name is transcribed by hand from the National Archives' own scans of the original manifests. Where a manifest and its certificate disagree, we print both. Nothing is guessed, and nobody is left out.
