Blade Art Online Template
BAO: Anime Sword Combat RPG Template
An anime-style sword-fighting RPG template with a working greatsword combat system, an item economy, quests, a duel arena and a large town-and-wilderness map, built on a modular Knit codebase.
Combat
- Server-validated melee with hitbox checks and a combat module system
- Greatsword combat with a 5-hit combo, blocking, a posture system and guard-break stuns
- Directional dashes (front, back, left, right)
- Camera-facing strafe movement, with the head following the camera while idle
- Ragdoll on death, camera shake, and a VFX library (combat, death, movement, blue fire, lightning)
Progression and items
- Inventory with equippable weapons, armor, cloaks, clothing and potions
- 13 weapon models: 6 greatswords, 2 katanas and 5 swords
- Chestplates, cloaks, full armor sets, basic clothing, one-piece outfits and suits
- Yen currency, XP and levels, stats HUD and a marketplace service
- Saved player data for inventory, stats and quests (ProfileService)
World and gameplay
- Large town, buildings and wilderness
- Duel arena with a duels-won leaderboard (per session)
- Quest system with two sample quests (duel quest and find-item quest)
- Roaming NPCs that walk path routes, and hittable training dummies
- Day/night cycle
UI
- Console menu with Map, Profile, Social, Chat and Settings
- HUD with stats and inventory screen
Code
- Built on Knit with ProfileService, Trove, Signal, Promise and Component
- Modular services, built to work with Rojo
- Data-driven items, quests and hitbox data
Included as a starting point (needs your own scripting)
- Katana and sword models are equippable, but only the greatsword has attack animations and hitbox data. Add yours to use the other weapon types.
- Merchant NPCs, a gem merchant, a ranked NPC, bounty boards and floor teleporters are placed in the world with prompts, but you’ll need to wire up their logic and teleport destinations.
- Hair, face and skin colour assets are included, with no character creator.
- Circling NPC spawner points and zones are laid out, with no behaviour script.
Good for: developers who want a head start on an anime sword-fighting or duel game and are happy to build on a greatsword-based combat core.
