This Valentine's Day Sea Horse Art Project uses oil pastels and paint to create a sea horse with hearts that makes a bright bulletin board display. It works for both classrooms and homeschool.

Students follow a visual and text step-by-step, with each step on its own page with a description. A step-by-step guide for drawing the sea horse, a heart tracing sheet and a rubric for marking help every student create the piece successfully.

WHAT TEACHERS ARE SAYING

★★★★ “I let my students vote on their February art project and this is what they decided on. Their work turned out super cute and I couldn't be more impressed with how easy the directions were to follow.” Jessica T.

WHAT'S INCLUDED (NON-EDITABLE)

  • About the Product, an overview of the lesson and how to use it in your classroom
  • Lesson Plan with materials, learning outcomes, goals and "Teacher Does/Student Does" instructions
  • Sea Horse Step-by-Step Draw Worksheet, a guided drawing page
  • Heart Tracing Sheet for students who need help drawing hearts
  • Art Piece Demonstration Step-by-Step, 30 slides with detailed images and descriptions
  • Example of Art Piece, a completed sample to show students the final result

HOW TO USE IT

Look over the lesson plan to see what to do and gather the materials in advance. Check the visual and text step-by-steps to see how the piece is made, and consider making a sample yourself so you are ready to help students later. Photocopy any student handouts you need, such as the step-by-steps or rubric.

Print the sample artwork in color and show students what they are making before the lesson, as your hook. Then show the PDF on a digital projector or under a document camera (best printed in color), or use it as your own guide while you demonstrate the project to the class. Every step has both a visual and a text description, so students can follow along clearly.
