Running for Beginners
If you’ve ever tried to start running before and thought:
“This feels too hard for me…”
You are not alone.
One of the biggest things I hear from beginner runners is that many plans progress too quickly — leaving people feeling exhausted, discouraged or like they’ve somehow “failed” at running.
But the truth is this:
👉 running is a skill
👉 fitness takes time
👉 confidence is built gradually
And you do not need to suffer through every session to become a runner.
I’ve worked in recreational running development for Scottish Athletics for over 12 years, I’m a licensed UK Running Coach and Scottish Athletics course tutor and an ultra marathon runner— but most importantly, I understand what it feels like to start from the beginning.
This guide is designed to help you:
• build fitness gradually
• gain confidence at your own pace
• reduce injury risk
• create a running habit that actually feels sustainable
No pressure.
No perfection.
No “all or nothing” mindset.
Just a realistic, supportive approach to becoming a runner.
