Anger & Big Reactions ages 9-12
Anger & Big Reactions
Anger is a normal human emotion, but sometimes it can feel intense and difficult to manage. In this educational wellbeing session, children learn what anger is, why it happens, and how it can affect thoughts, feelings, behaviour and the body.
Children explore how anger often acts as a protective response, learn to recognise early warning signs, and develop practical strategies to pause, regulate emotions and make more helpful choices when feelings become overwhelming.
This session helps children learn to:
✔ Understand what anger is and the purpose it serves
✔ Recognise that anger is a normal emotion experienced by everyone
✔ Explore how the brain responds when it perceives a threat, challenge or unfair situation
✔ Identify emotions that can sit underneath anger, such as worry, disappointment, embarrassment, frustration or sadness
✔ Recognise physical and emotional warning signs that anger is building
✔ Understand how emotions can escalate from small feelings into bigger reactions
✔ Learn the difference between reacting impulsively and responding thoughtfully
✔ Develop self-awareness and emotional regulation skills
✔ Practise practical calming strategies to reduce emotional intensity
✔ Create a personalised Calming Sensory Board to support self-regulation when emotions feel overwhelming
This session also includes:
✔ Pre-recorded lesson
✔ Printable worksheets and activities
✔ Parent overview

✔ Information about mindfulness and how it can help the brain and body settle
