Every mahjong score calculator you can find online is built for a different game. American NMJL. Japanese Riichi. Chinese variants. None of them score a Western parlour hand the way u3a groups and BMJA-leaning clubs do. This one does. It uses the exact scoring engine from Western Mahjong with Coach, so the numbers match the game.

Score a real hand in about a minute

Someone goes Mah Jong at the table and the room isn't sure what it's worth. Reconstruct the hand here, set by set. Mark each set concealed or exposed, tap the winning tile, set the round wind and your seat, and flag the things that change the score: self-drawn, a loose tile after a kong or flower, the last tile of the wall, or robbing a kong. Tap any flowers and seasons. Press Calculate and you get the total with a full breakdown, every set, every bonus, every double, so you can see exactly how it adds up and settle the table with confidence. Seven pairs and other unusual hands have an individual-tiles mode.

Because it shows every step rather than just the total, it's also a gentle way to learn how Western hands are valued, handy if you or someone at the table is still getting to grips with the scoring.

Built for in-person games

This is the companion to Western Mahjong with Coach, for when you're playing with real tiles and want a quick, trustworthy second opinion on a score, or you're still learning how the scoring works. It shares the game's engine, which has been tested in real play and against the published BMJA rules, so the calculator and the game always agree.

A note on rules

It uses Thompson and Maloney / BMJA scoring as the group plays it: Half Limit 500, Limit 1000. Western rule sets vary from group to group, so for a close call that matters, check it against your own rule sheet before settling. The calculator says so on the page too.

What it isn't

Not the game: no play, no opponents, no Coach. Not a tile reader: you enter the hand yourself. Not online or multiplayer, and not built for American NMJL or Japanese Riichi scoring. It does one thing, score a Western parlour hand correctly, and tries to do it well.
