From Griot to Hard Drive: The Past, Present & Future of Archiving

Join Krü, creator of the Black Lesbian Archives this fall for a special 3-part workshop series exploring how we’ve kept memory across time from oral traditions to digital archives, and the revival of analog.

Session Themes (at 11AM EST)

October 19th – Oral Traditions & Scribes

  • Explore how stories, memory, were preserved before the page, through griots, scribes, and spoken word keepers.

October 26th – Printing Press to Journalism

  • From newsletters to zines, underground presses to independent journalism. Discover how communities have published our truths.

November 2nd – The Future of Archiving

  • Digital sovereignty, censorship, and the rise of analog returns.

The Sessions

Each session will premiere on YouTube with a live chat space, so you can watch, learn, and connect with others in real time. You will be sent a link via email the day before the live.

Community Padlet

Alongside the sessions, October’s Padlet theme will invite you to share your own visions of archiving—zines, cassette tapes, handwritten journals, stories, and more. Together, we’ll create a collective snapshot of memory across mediums.

Come with a notebook, sketchbook, or even a cassette recorder. Let’s honor the past, present and imagine the archives of our future.

See y'all there!
