Live, weekly write-ins in small cohorts with feedback.
Story Lab is a live, guided write-in cohort for writers who want consistent writing time, thoughtful community, and the momentum to move a meaningful project forward.
You do not need a finished manuscript. You may arrive with an idea, an outline, a few pages, a work in progress, or a project that needs renewed attention.
YOUR COHORT
First session: To be Announced
Meeting day and time: Thursdays at 6:00 PM PST
Location: Live on Zoom
Zoom link: Coming Soon
Please save the recurring meeting information. The same link will be used throughout the six-week cohort unless you are notified otherwise.
WHAT TO BRING
Please come to each Story Lab with:
• Your current writing project
• A notebook, computer, or preferred writing materials
• One realistic goal for the session
• A quiet place where you can write and participate
• Headphones, if helpful
• A short passage you may want to read aloud
You are welcome to work on fiction, nonfiction, memoir, poetry, children’s literature, or another meaningful writing project.
THE WEEKLY RHYTHM
Each 75-minute Story Lab includes:
• Arrival and intention setting
• A brief optional writing prompt
• Protected, quiet writing time
• Selected readings and supportive discussion
• A closing commitment for the week ahead
Reading time will rotate among participants. Not every writer will read during every session.
HOW FEEDBACK WORKS
Story Lab discussion focuses on:
• What is already working
• Voice and memorable language
• Reader response
• Clarity and direction
• Questions worth exploring
• A useful next step
This is a supportive writing cohort—not a manuscript workshop built around intensive critique.
Story Lab does not include advance manuscript reading, line editing, developmental editing, proofreading, or written critique. Those services may be arranged separately when appropriate.
OUR STUDIO AGREEMENTS
To create a serious and generous writing space, participants agree to:
• Treat every writer and project with respect
• Keep writing shared in the Studio confidential
• Respond to the work rather than judging the writer
• Avoid rewriting another participant’s story in your own voice
• Allow the writer to decide which feedback to use
• Arrive prepared to write
• Make room for different voices, genres, and experiences
• Protect the group’s time by arriving promptly
BEFORE OUR FIRST SESSION
Please reply to or complete the introductory questions below:
YOUR FIRST COMMITMENT
Before we meet, choose one small action that will make it easier to begin.
You might:
• Gather your notes into one place
• Reread the last few pages you wrote
• Create a new project document
• Write a one-paragraph description of your idea
• Identify the scene, chapter, poem, or section you want to begin with
Do not wait until the project feels perfectly organized. Bring the work as it is.
The purpose of Story Lab is to help you return to the page, stay with the work, and continue becoming the writer your story requires.
