STOP UNDERPRICING YOUR PRINTS

Most 3D printing calculators do the same thing. Filament grams times price per gram, plus an hourly rate, and that's your cost. It isn't. That number is the reason so many print shops run flat out all month and end up with nothing to show for it.

Here is what it leaves out.

FAILED PRINTS. One print in ten fails and you still paid for it. The nine that survived have to cover the tenth, and the only way to do that is to divide by your success rate. Adding a 10% buffer is not the same calculation and it gives you a smaller number.

PURGE AND WASTE. Every AMS tool change dumps filament that never reaches the part. On a small multicolor print the purge can outweigh the model itself.

MACHINE WEAR. Your printer is a consumable. Nozzles, belts, build plates, and eventually the machine. All of it runs out after a finite number of hours, and every print owes its share of that.

POST-PROCESSING. Support removal and sanding is time you pay for whether you bill it or not. On most parts it is the single biggest labor cost, and it usually gets priced at zero.

MARKETPLACE FEES. This is the expensive one. You cannot add your margin and then subtract fees, because that does not leave you with your margin. The price has to be solved backwards, through the fees.
