Poemas Hermosos

These are beautiful poems in the Spanish language. About twenty-two to twenty-eight years ago, school children in Mexico and Central America bought far more than one hundred thousand home made booklets of these poems. They have been copyrighted in the United States and some of them in Mexico.

Because of their popularity, Mr. Zimmermann's biography was included in "Who's Who in the Midwest," of the years 1998-1999, if my memory is correct.

Especially popular were the poems entitled "La Matanza de Amor" and "La Primavera del Amor." Other favorites were "El Arco Iris," "A mi Padre," and "El Amor." The legends attracted interest. The legend entitled "La Sirena" was especially popular in Campeche, because that is where the siren was supposed to live. Children sometimes were visibly afraid when the poem "Xtabay" was recited to them, but they liked the poem nonetheless.

Christian poems were included in this booklet, but in accordance with SEP officials' instructions, he did not attempt to promote them in classrooms. Sometimes a teacher asked him to present one or the other of the religious poems. But otherwise he strictly followed the SEP instructions.

Of special beauty is "Loas Primaverales," a poem praising the Lord for the beauties of springtime, and a poem concerning Chrismas Eve.
