General Eisenhower and D-Day

We have picked a topic that few young people understand the significance of. What would have happened if D-Day had failed? We can only guess, but it's safe to say that democracy would have been in big trouble.

Many times in world history, the United States of America has joined the fight and succeeded against all odds. Every time a challenge came we were not ready, not prepared, and seemed to win by divine intervention. Somehow God prepared the right people to lead us through our most difficult challenges. Think of Bradford, Washington, Lincoln, and Pershing.

You may say God had nothing to do with this series of seemingly miraculous events. Maybe it was just dumb luck. If that's you, well, we have an amazing lucky streak going.

Eisenhower gave this speech to his troops, ..."The tide has turned. The free men of the world are marching together to victory. I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than total victory. Good luck, and let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking."

D-Day, June 6, 1944, was the largest amphibious invasion in history, involving nearly 160,000 Allied troops landing in Normandy to liberate Europe. Over 10,300 Allied troops were killed, wounded, or missing, while German casualties are estimated between 4,000 and 9,000 men. By day's end, the Allies established a firm, yet costly, foothold.
