Duet Trio for percussion trio

The title, Duet Trio, is a simple description of the format of this medium-easy percussion ensemble. Each performer in the trio is responsible for two instruments: one drum plus a mounted accessory instrument - either tambourine, woodblock, or triangle. The piece opens in common time with a unison statement followed by dialogue between the players. The middle section rapidly alternates between unison figures and rhythmic interplay. The ensemble concludes with a repeated four-bar phrase gradually building into a reprise of the opening unison statement. Regular note heads on the lower staff lines are to be played on the drum. The upper staff with the distinctive note heads is to be played on the accessory instrument. These accessories (triangle, wood block, tambourine) should each be played with snare drum sticks to facilitate quick changes between instruments.
