Why did the T-Rex Become Extinct?

The extinction of the Tyrannosaurus rex, along with many other species, is believed to have been caused by a combination of factors around 66 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous period. Here are the main theories:

1. Asteroid Impact

Chicxulub Impact: A massive asteroid, approximately 10 kilometers wide, struck what is now the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. This event created the Chicxulub crater and is thought to have triggered widespread environmental changes.

2. Volcanic Activity

Deccan Traps: Extensive volcanic eruptions in present-day India released large amounts of lava, ash, and gases into the atmosphere. This could have contributed to climate change by cooling temperatures and altering ecosystems.

3. Climate Change

Global Cooling: The combination of the asteroid impact and volcanic activity likely led to a "nuclear winter" effect, with reduced sunlight causing cooler temperatures and disrupted photosynthesis.

Habitat Loss: Changes in climate would have affected the habitats of many species, including T. rex, leading to food shortages.

4. Ecosystem Collapse

The combined effects of the asteroid impact and volcanic eruptions would have led to the collapse of various ecosystems, disrupting the food chain and making survival difficult for large predators like T. rex.

These factors together created an inhospitable environment that ultimately led to the extinction of the T. rex and about 75% of all species on Earth at that time.
