Vlastimil Emil Kosvanec (December 14, 1887 in Karlin - November 1961 in Prague) was a Czech artist, graphic designer and illustrator.
Vlastimil Kosvanec, the son of Bedrich Kosvanec, glover, and Helena Kosvancova, dressmaker, was born in Karlen on December 14, 1887. He was baptized under the name Emile Vlastimil in the Roman Catholic Church on December 27 of the same year. He have three brothers, Jaromir, Blessed and Bedrich.

After primary school, he visited the Imperial Royal Lyceum and graduated from high school. After graduation, he entered the Academy of Arts in the school of Professor Vlaho Bukovac. During this period, his father died, and his stepfather became an industrialist Antonin Peak from Smichov. Later he studied with Professor Vojtech Hajnasa, experimenting with the technique of drawing and painting. In the Academy, Kosvanec repeatedly received awards as the best pupil of the year. In 1909, he participated in the competition and received a scholarship to the "Khlavka" foundation, one of the most desired.

The artist moved between many picturesque styles: realism, impressionism, post-impressionism and symbolism. During this time, he lived in the Prazhsky district of Holesovice, in the Nadtou district, near the Academy. After academic studies, he traveled abroad until 1939 in Italy, France, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Albania, Yugoslavia and Montenegro.

Kosvanec was considered one of the best portraitists who appreciated both their technique and their own unique style. Rich bourgeois, aristocracy, elite, businessmen, intelligent and glorified people wanted to be immortalized in the portrait.

Last years Vlastimil Kosvanec spent in complete isolation until November 1961. Vlastimil Kosvanec died at the age of 74 and is buried in the cemetery of Olshany in Prague.
