This shawl was inspired by my love of cable stayed bridges and the beautiful lines that they create. I love bridges in general and their symbolism, representing transitions and change. I’ve learned that change is the only constant in life, and in order to thrive we have to be willing to change with the changes. We have to cross our bridges and hope that whatever is awaiting us on the other side will take us to a place where we can grow and prosper. That’s the beauty that I tried to capture as it changes from bumpy mini bobbles to a rugged slip stitch motif before finally changing to a soft and comforting garter stitch.

When I designed this shawl I was mindful that I was using skeins of yarn that aren’t your typical yardage. I used nearly every scrap of my main color when I knit the sample. I utilized a wide garter border in order to give you plenty of room to make changes to the stripes as you use up your yarn. If the yardage of your chosen yarn is short then don’t be afraid to change the number of rows that you knit in each or your colors, or to add in an extra pop of color at the end in order to use what you have.
