Lucy Stone Framed Prints A4/A3
Lucy Stone was born in August 1818 and spent her life fighting to be heard in a world that wanted women silent. She was the first woman in Massachusetts to earn a college degree, and she used that education to take on two of the biggest fights of her time: aboloshing slavery and winning rights for women.
What set her apart was her insistance that those two struggles were connected - she knew that freedom had to mean black women's voices and votes as well - and she wasn't afraid to break tradition! She kept her own name after marriage, a simple act today, but revolutionary in hthe 1800s
So much of what we see now - women speaking publicly, voting, demanding equality across race and gender - Lucy Stone helped lay the foundation for.
These framed prints come in A4 and A3, and are part of my 'printed sketchbook' collection - a series of prints available for one month only, taken directly from the sketchbooks that I've filled up the month before. Raw, unfiltered, unpredictable and even unfinished - these artworks often show pencil marks, gridlines, mistakes, cut off edges, and even paper folds....as they offer an insight into my process and development that month, and a glimpse behind the curtains of my practice and what I'm currently working on.
