Parabolic SAR Explained — Trail Your Stop (PDF Guide)
You put the Parabolic SAR on your chart because someone said it tells you where to put your stop. For a week it did. Then the market went sideways and the dots started flipping above and below price every three or four bars, stopping you out of the same trade twice in an hour, and you were never sure whether you had the settings wrong or the indicator was simply lying to you.
Neither. You were pointing a trend tool at a market that had no trend, and nobody had told you what the three settings actually change. This is a 48-page PDF that teaches Parabolic SAR from the first thing you see on the screen through to a written strategy with an entry, a stop and an explicit rule for when the trade is wrong.
Nothing is taught underneath a chart. Every label sits on the candle, the line or the level it is describing, on real ETH, LTC and BTC charts, with the actual values printed on the candles. There are three quizzes on real charts, each followed by the same chart re-shown annotated with the reasoning, plus faded practice pages where the first steps are filled in and you finish the rest.
WHAT'S INSIDE
- Every dot on the screen, named — What the trail is, which side means what, and why the gap matters
- All three settings, one at a time — Start, Increment and Max value — what each one buys and costs
- The settings for your timeframe — Values for the 5-minute, 15-minute and 1-hour, with the trade-off
- Three signals, on real charts — The flip, the trail as a stop, and reading trend maturity
- Does it even work right now? — The market it suits, and the market that quietly bleeds you
- A full strategy, with a worked trade — Entry, stop, invalidation and outcome — real numbers, step by step
- Three quizzes on charts, plus practice — Faded examples and a blank chart, with the reasoning on every answer
WHAT YOU'LL BE ABLE TO DO
- Read the trail in one glance — direction from the side, remaining room from the gap
- Set Start, Increment and Max value on purpose, and say out loud what each change costs you
- Tell a tradeable flip from the chop that produces four of them in twenty bars
- Place a stop that moves in one direction only, and know the one thing that invalidates the trade
- Recognise the market condition where this indicator quietly bleeds an account, and stand down
AN HONEST NOTE
Parabolic SAR is a clue, not a crystal ball. It describes what price has already done. This guide contains no win-rates, no backtest results and no promises about what you will make, because nobody can verify those and you should not trust anyone who prints them. What it hands you instead is a set of rules you can test yourself on TradingView in an afternoon. Educational, not financial advice.
