"Khvalite imya Godspodne (Praise the Name of the Lord)"
Mvt. VIII: Znamenney Chant from All-Night Vigil (Vespers), Op. 37
Composed in 1915 for SATB choir by Sergei Rachmaninoff
Transcribed for brass ensemble in 2022 by Joel Denney. Premiered November 10th, 2022, at Hill Theater, Rochester Community and Technical College, by the brass musicians of the Rochester Community Band, directed by Anthony Boldt.
This arrangement is playable either by a wind ensemble's brass section (with euphonium and divisi tubas) or by an orchestral brass section (no euphonium, one tuba). Low brass players should play the appropriate cues as needed so that all voices are covered. Four players are sufficient to cover all low brass parts. The two horn parts may be doubled for a standard orchestral horn section, or played four-per-part for a full concert band horn section.
Alternate transpositions available: Bb and C trumpet; bass clef and Bb treble clef euphonium/baritone. Other transpositions/clefs available upon request at joeldenney.music@gmail.com
