The Napoleon snake eel (Ophichthus bonaparti) is an eel with an elongated, snake-like body, pointed head and tail, and a lack of prominent fins. It is distinguished by a spotted pattern on its head and thick black and white bands on its body. This nocturnal ambush predator is usually found buried in sandy or rubble-filled bottoms of protected bays, with only its head visible.
