Oceans is a setting of a three-part poem by Kendra Preston Leonard for SATB a cappella voices, exploring the ocean as both a place of wonder and a vessel for memory. Inspired by Leonard’s creative, nostalgic, and bittersweet text, the music reflects on the fragments of our own memories that seem to linger in the sound and movement of the sea. Fleeting glimpses of the seaside gradually come into focus before giving way to a warm, expansive climax, then return as a collage of memories interwoven with the sound of ocean waves.
