This Otter Color Wheel Art Lesson teaches Kindergarten to Grade 3 students about primary and secondary colors in a hands-on way. Using wax crayons and tempera paint, students create a cheerful otter holding a color wheel, so the lesson is both a color mixing activity and a finished artwork for your walls or bulletin board.

It combines art making with early literacy: reading comprehension, art reflections and creative thinking pages for classroom or homeschool. Students learn to mix red, blue and yellow into orange, green and purple, organize colors in a color wheel, and express themselves with color, line and texture. The otter theme is approachable for beginners and helps build confidence.
