This Value Shark Art Lesson teaches the element of art: value to grades 1 to 4. Students use wax crayon, tempera paint and colored paper to create bold shark collages that explore tints, shades and expressive line.

The lesson focuses on recognizing and applying light and dark values, with a mix of structured instruction and creative freedom. It comes with a PowerPoint slideshow and PDF art tutorial, plus reflection pages, writing tasks and student-friendly vocabulary, and suits classroom teachers, homeschool parents, art educators and substitute teachers. It also works well as an introduction to the Elements of Art.
