Week Three Between Two Rivers
This week's lesson makes its case for the Ubaid period through the big, visible things: a temple rebuilt on the same spot for centuries, a myth that remembers a city's founding, a label that expanded to cover two thousand kilometres of territory. All of that is worth considering seriously in what it meant for the landscape during the Ubaid period.
HOWEVER there's a smaller, less ‘dramatic’ body of evidence worth considering also, because it makes the same argument from the opposite direction: not through monuments, but through the ordinary residue of daily life.
