Inspired by the ceinture flechee, a traditional sash worn by the French Canadian voyageurs in the 19th century, the Voyageur scarf features diagonal lines of lace broken up by horizontal garter stitch ridges.


This pattern is written out and charted.

Shown in Knit Picks Hawthorne Fingering (affiliate)(80% Superwash Fine Highland Wool, 20% Polyamide (Nylon); 357 yards/100g).

Substitution Notes
Original yarn is a fingering weight sock yarn (wool/nylon blend) and works up at 7 to 8 sts per inch (2.5 cm) on 2.25 to 3.25 mm (US 1-3) needles. Choose a fingering weight yarn that feels nice against the skin. The nylon content in the original is not necessary for this project.

Gauge
Chart measures 10” wide and 32 rows (2 repeats) = 4”, blocked and relaxed

Techniques
Increases/decreases, working simple lace from chart or written instructions, garter stitch.
