Clever Crackers PDF Sewing Pattern

Clever Crackers are reusable fabric Christmas Crackers with an optional inside drawstring pouch to keep your treats safe during pulling. They are approx. 11.5” (29cm) in size, and can be used with a cracker snap if this is your preference (instructions for using these are included in the pattern). Clever Crackers are designed to be made using cotton woven or canvas fabrics, and require both cotton woven fusible interfacing, and a heavier weight fusible interfacing such as Decovil Light Pellon 525 to give the cracker structure. Guidance is also included for substituting the latter for an extra-heavy sew in interfacing if this is your preference. The inside cracker fits snugly inside the outside cracker, and so there is no need for velcro to hold your cracker together, although instructions for using this are included should you wish to do so to help simulate the ‘snap’. Additional requirements include ribbon for the outside ties and ribbon or string for the drawstring inside pouch. All pattern pieces are included, along with measurements to use instead if this is your preference.

Supplies List - One Cracker

Fabric measurements are approximate and allow for a slight extra to ease cutting

23” wide by 8.5” long (60cm wide by 22cm long) of Exterior Fabric

23” wide by 12.5” long (60cm wide by 32cm long) of Interior/Lining Fabric

16” wide by 7” long (40cm wide by 18cm long) Light- Medium Woven Interfacing

16” wide by 7” long (40cm wide by 18cm long) Heavier Fusible Interfacing (such as Decovil Light Pellon 525) OR Extra-Heavy Sew in Interfacing (such as Hemline HN139)

2 x 9” (22cm) ribbon for the exterior of your crackers (width at your preference)

2 x 7.5” (19cm) 1/4” (6mm) ribbon or string for the inside drawstring closure

Optional 7” (17.75cm) of sew in velcro (recommended width 3/8” (1cm))

Optional cracker snap plus tape to attach to your cracker. Lots will work – I’ve used ‘Brown Paper Tape’ which I find works well as it is fairly sticky.
