This year’s Shetland Wool Week theme, Shetland Ways, shines a spotlight on the rich diversity of skills and traditions that define Shetland knitting and wool preparation.

Across this series of short films we follow the journey from fleece to finished object - exploring the time-honoured techniques behind fleece preparation, Shetland lace, Fair Isle knitting, and finishing methods.

From the makkin belt to intricate finishing touches, Shetland knitters have developed their own ‘ways’ over generations. There is no single ‘right way, but rather a shared culture of efficiency, innovation and beautiful craftsmanship.
