Reflections from the Camino
Once you answer the Call of the Camino you will never be the same person again!
Despite my nomadic lifestyle which found me coping with some scary and undesirable situations, I was nervous as I set out alone in the dark and the drizzle at six in the morning for the daunting crossing of the Pyrenees. I had to cross them in one hit and as I climbed, the panic inside me mounted.
Walking the Camino changed me and changed my life on many levels, beginning on the day that I set out with quite a bit of trepidation from the front door.
You might have no intention of ever spending a good chunk of your life simply walking or you might want to challenge yourself and walk your own Camino after reading my story, but I hope that this book which is interspersed with my personal musings and ruminations inspires you in some way.
Respecting others and acknowledging that unless you have walked in somebody else’s shoes you are in no position to judge them is what makes humanity kind. It also breeds equality; as does having the desire to be curious and to want to continuously stretch and learn, and also developing the habit of reflection and learning from past experiences.
More than anything, mindfulness and living in the moment and appreciating every single second as a new event that can never be repeated, can bring joy and happiness - and nothing can be more mindful than walking, one foot in front of the other, step by step 800kms across a country.
I bring you the ongoing story of my journey and I hope that some of the insights that were gained or reinforced during my pilgrimage will help you during these difficult times.
