Peanut Butter - Infographic Lessons

What does peanut butter have to do with English, ethics, the environment and global food production? Quite a lot, as it turns out.

Peanut Butter is an engaging A2+ lesson that starts with a familiar food and develops into a wider exploration of how food is produced, consumed and understood.

Learners read an infographic, discover how peanut butter is made, notice the active and passive voice in context, discuss their own eating habits, carry out a class survey and create an unusual peanut butter sandwich.

The lesson then moves beyond language practice to explore issues such as health, allergies, working conditions, environmental impact and access to food.

These themes also create natural connections with several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Responsible Consumption and Production.

Meaningful communication, not just language practice

Learners predict, compare, interview, explain, create and discuss. Grammar emerges naturally from the topic, with the passive voice explored through the language of food production rather than isolated exercises.

The lesson also encourages learners to think about questions such as:
