Lesson_64_Deaths_of_Rachel_Isaac.
Genesis 35 contains some of the most heartbreaking moments of Jacob's life. As they are traveling toward
Bethlehem, Rachel goes into severe labor. With her dying breath, she names her new baby boy 'Ben-Oni' (Son
of my sorrow). But Jacob, refusing to let his son carry the burden of his mother's death, renames him
'Benjamin' (Son of my right hand). Jacob buries the absolute love of his life on the side of the road and sets up
a stone pillar to mark her grave. Shortly after, Jacob finally makes it back home to Hebron just in time to see
his father, Isaac, die at the age of 180. In a beautiful moment of closure, Jacob and Esau stand side-by-side to
bury their father together. Today, we put the lapbooks away and engage in hands-on activities to process grief,
the power of a name, and the perspective that death brings.
