This painting resembles families going out on country to hunt for sleepy lizards (gulda), also known as the blue tongued lizard or the shingle back (Tiliqua Rugosa). Gulda is the Aboriginal word in the Pitjantjatjara language for the animal. I incorporated two lizards in the top right corner because they are often seen in male-female pairs during the spring breeding season.

As hunters and gatherers, Aboriginal people understood the seasonal changes and life cycles, enabling them to thrive on whatever food sources they could discover. Australia is home to hundreds of lizard species, all regarded as valuable food options.
